In contemporary India, with Jio Telecommunications coming into the market and connecting its every user to a free unlimited free internet, developed a habit of every smartphone user to generate data on mobile phones unknowingly and unwillingly. Digital world today is filling a void created in everyone’s life due to metro nature of lifestyle in today’s India. With vast number of mobile services, which helps in making day to day chores easier are collecting out habits, trends, location and most importantly our personal information. This data in the hand of a person, who has the skills of a data scientist could be catastrophic.

Next big technologies are Blockchain, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and Automation. When all five combined it creates a self sustainable learning atmosphere for an artificial brain. The new series of Amazon Echo marks the beginning of a era from where an AI powered personal assistant, Alexa talks to the user and learn by listening.

Hacking has become very common these days and not even Indian government websites are safe.

One should be aware for seeking solution to cyber threats. Reporting a cyber crime is as important as reporting any other crime. As we are observing that dependency on the computers has increased exponentially and technology is creating a new ecosystem for itself.

With Digital India, the era of digital criminals mark its beginning.

After series of research the only possible way of lodging a complain for cyber crime is by login to Digital Police portal. The login link is not easy to be found on the home page and would redirect one to “https://cybercrime.gov.in”, where only one can report a crime against a woman and child, against sexual abuse, totally dealing with pornography content only. But then with efforts I found this link “https://digitalpolice.gov.in/ncr/login.aspx”, by going to this link and registering for an account you would need to verify the mobile number or email-id. After completing registration process, one can file a complaint for a cyber crime all over India.

The complaint registration process starts with, providing victims details. Victim himself, or on behalf of someone with whom the crime happened, can file the complaint, online and offline.

The next step is providing the accused details. The person could be known or unknown, or a co-operate or private body. After providing the necessary details in this step we move to step 3, which is providing details of the incident and all the required proofs to support your complaint.

The final step is to save the complaint and register it by clicking the button provided at the end of form.

After this, it is recommended to visit the nearest cyber cell, for proper verification of complaint, with all the necessary proofs.

Digital data in today’s world is being created with the 5V’s of data, which are velocity, volume, value, variety and veracity. Velocity is the rate at which we are developing new data daily, volume is the size of data, variety could be types e.g.: images, videos, text, audio, etc. and lastly veracity means the accuracy of data, e.g.: credit card details, bank details, etc.

All this data in the hands of a wrong person is dangerous, as the data being stolen by a hacker could be innocent private moments in between a young couple who just got married, or could be of as serious matters as related to a bank account linked to a Adhar card, of an Indian citizen. With changing times, we need a new set of guiding principles for digital association of people.
